Over 7 in 10 young people aged 18 to 24 are considering moving abroad to enjoy a better quality of life.
A new National Youth Council survey, carried out by Red C, shows it’s due to the severe impact the cost-of-living crisis is having on them.
It’s calling for action from the government in the Budget to prevent them from emigrating.
National Youth Council spokesperson, Paul Gordon, says their mental health is suffering and they’re worried about housing.
‘The cost of living is really hitting young people in the pocket but it’s affecting them in other ways as well, so half said that their mental health got worse in the past 6 months and 2 in 5 said they’re less happy, they’re also facing different expenses to the rest of the population and are more likely to find themselves spending money on things like college and apprenticeship fees and public transport while those not living with families are spending more money on housing and accommodation.’
