"She has since given it back to me and accused me of undervaluing her and what she does for me."

A man's dilemma has gone viral, after revealing his bride-to-be rejected the engagement ring he'd chosen for her because it was 'too cheap' - despite it costing €3K.

Taking to Reddit's famous 'Am I the a**hole' section to ask if he was in the wrong for not spending more on the ring, the man explained his situation to strangers on the internet... as one does in 2020.

"My partner and I have been talking about getting engaged for the last year or so," he wrote.

"I have quite a good job so could easily afford an expensive engagement ring and if I was following the 10% rule then I should spend around 10-15k on the ring.

"However, my parents, sister and nephew have all had Covid this year so I was financially supporting all of them for a while, my sister has lost her job so I'm still supporting her a bit and my job has announced that they will be laying off around 150 people next year and while I feel confident that I'm not one of them, I don't want to guarantee it either."

He went on: "So long story short I spent about 3k on a nice little white gold ring with diamonds and a sapphire (her birthstone).

"Initially she was very happy with it until her mother(a jeweller) called it cheap.

"She has since given it back to me and accused me of undervaluing her and what she does for me."

The groom later explained that his fiance is now giving him the silent treatment, and telling him he treated her like "cheap trash".

The mum-of-one is reportedly fuming at her partner for not spending more on the engagement ring, despite the sentimental thought behind it, and the other causes his money was going to.

Taking to the comments, fellow Reddit users were quick to tell the groom he had done nothing wrong, and insist it was actually his bride to be who needed a reality check.

"How the actual f*** is 3k cheap?," one wrote.

While another penned: "Yea 10k is way too much to spend on a ring even without Covid or the kid. I would dump this gold digger tbh."

A third agreed: "We're in a global crisis.. you're literally supporting your entire family and your partner is also aware of this.

As another chipped in: "It was nice of her to show her true colors before you legally tied the knot. Bounce or at least delay any wedding until she grows-the-fork-up (sic)".

"She should be a little more understanding... this is giving me red flags. Money isn't everything and it's clear that you care about her. Her mother needs to mind her own business."

We think €3k is a perfectly respectable amount to pay for a ring!
