They certainly sniffed out the trouble...

Three Albanian men have been jailed and two Italian men placed under house arrest, after their hidden stash of cocaine was found and destroyed by wild boars in Italy.

The drugs, worth over €19,000 were believed to have been buried in a forest in Tuscany to prevent them from being found by police.

However, wild boars took it upon themselves to do the dirty detective work and dug up the packages that were found scattered around the woods.

Police knew about the drug-taking hogs after listening in to a telephone conversation between alleged dealers in which they were heard complaining about the boars in the Valdichiana valley.

The gang allegedly traded 4.4lbs of coke every month in nightclubs in the city of Arezzo.

It was not immediately known what happened to the curious animals.

Around two million boar are estimated to roam Italy, double the number in 2015, according to Coldiretti, the country’s largest farmers’ association, which claims the government has never taken measures to properly control their population.
