Playing video games every day can help to boost children's brain power.
Researchers at the University of Vermont conducted a study of 2,000 nine and ten-year-olds
They found those who played video games three hours a day did better in tests of their memory and thinking speed.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse in the US says the study adds to the understanding of the link between video games and brain development.
Director of the NIDA, Nora Volkow says the study suggests there may be "cognitive benefits" associated with playing computer games that "are worthy of further investigation."
However, she has also acknowledged the numerous studies that have previously linked video gaming to behaviour and mental health problems.
Parenting experts say children's development can also be helped by encouraging their curiosity, sitting down for dinner as a family and reading them the same bedtime story each night.
