A new study has found that young people are intimidated by full stops in social media conversations.

Experts have found that the use of full stops in text messages makes young people feel intimidated.

The Telegraph reported that Leiden University's Dr Lauren Fontevn said :

"If you send a text message without a full stop, it’s already obvious that you’ve concluded the message.

"So if you add that additional marker for completion, they will read something into it and it tends to be a falling intonation or negative tone."

A study carried out in 2015 by the Binghamton University in New York claimed that the use of full stops was perceived by young people as insincere.

It also reported that sentences ending with exclamation marks were more heartfelt.

According to The Mirror, it is easier for people to feel safe in a conversation by using facial expressions.

Since this is not possible in text it is better to use emojis and slang to put across how you are feeling.
