Toe-wrestling anyone?

Electric Picnic is done and dusted for another year. The tents are down, the heads are still sore and the bank account isn't looking in the best of shape. Still, it was all worth it and if you want to do it all over again in 2020, tickets go on sale this Saturday morning.

To celebrate the end of festival season here in Ireland, we've rounded up some quirky festivals taking place across the world in 2020:

1. Toe-wrestling festival in The UK

Got a thing for toes? Then the world toe wrestling championships in the UK is right up your street.

Toe Wrestling involves two people sitting across from each other with their toes interlocked and ready for battle and the loser is the contender whose foot is forced to touch the side of the ‘toedium’. Gas.

You can choose to go as a spectator to cheer on the toes taking part or you can compete yourself and lock toes with a stranger.

2. The Florida Underwater Music Festival

If toes aren't your thing and you want to go to a music festival with a difference instead, then head to Florida for the Underwater Music Festival.

For the past 25 years, hundreds of divers and snorkelers have come together for the festival at Looe Key Reef, part of the only living coral barrier reef in North America. Here, a pre-selected radio playlist is streamed live from underwater speakers, while musician-divers and mermaids play whimsical instruments.

Past festival themes have included 2008’s “EEL-ection Antics” festival, in which special guests “Barackuda Obama,” “Hillary Clin-Tuna” and “John McClam” fought for votes while in 2009’s Yellow Submarine event, reef rockstars, “Paul McCarpney” and “Ringo Starfish" took part.

3. Battle of the Oranges in Italy

You may have heard of la Tomatina in Buñol in Spain - where everyone goes around squashing tomatoes and throwing them at each other. Well did you know a similar festival exits in Italy?

It's called the Battle of the Oranges and does exactly what it says on the tin. It's a food fight where poeple throw oranges at each other however this is no amateur food fight festival... This is a very professional set up.

Vrea in Italy is transformed into a battlefield with 9 squads fighting for the sake of justice. Each team has its own commander, uniform, and a bunch of oranges to throw at their opponents.

It might sound like fun, but the oranges are known to leave heavy injuries and it’s forbidden to participate without a helmet.
