"He was in too deep and couldn't bring himself to own up."
We'd all love a day or two off work but what lengths would you to get it off?
One man has taken skiving off work to the next level faking his kidnapping.
Mariusz Kaminski, from Poland, has been jailed for telling his boss that he was being held against his will, causing a police investigation.
In 2017, the 36-year-old claimed that he was allegedly kidnapped by three men who threw him the in back of a white BMW before he managed to escape.
Kaminski had been messaging his manager from the comfort of his own home.
The chef has now been sentenced to 16 months in jail for creating the the crazy story.
According to Ladbible, In mitigation John Dyer asked Recorder Harris is the there was a possibility of imposing a sentence that did not include immediate time.
Mr Dyer said:
"This is highly unusual, almost bizarre, unique. Mr Kaminski didn't commit this offence to get other people into trouble, to incriminate an innocent party, to interfere with or fabricate evidence to prevent his own prosecution.
"He had this foolish lie thrust upon him."
"He was in too deep and couldn't bring himself to own up."
Recorder Harris said:
"Those who commit this type of offence make bogus allegations as a result of which innocent people are harmed and resources expended [and] must expect immediate custodial sentences whatever the mitigation."
