Silverfish apparently like to chow down on things like books, photos and paintings.
Irish households are being warned to look out for silverfish, as there are concerns about infestation rates.
Silverfish are tiny insects which have a fish-like shape, and like to feast on starch-rich items such as books, photographs, and paintings.
Pest-control experts Rentokil say they can also be found in wallpaper, carpets and food debris, so they advise regularly vacuuming your house and also keeping all food items secure.
As well as this, they recommend fixing any leaking pipes, improving ventilation and using dehumidifiers, because silverfish need damp and humid conditions to thrive.
Dublin recorded the highest infestation rates, followed by Cork and Kildare.
