We are living in an episode of Black Mirror!
In Britain people will be able to watch TV while using self-driving cars under proposed changes to the Highway Code.
But the update will insist drivers must always be ready to take back control of the vehicle.
It'll still be illegal for drivers to use their phone behind the wheel though.
Insurance companies would be liable for claims - rather than individuals using the cars.
The measure does not extend to cars with only 'assistive' technology, like lane keeping assist and cruise control. Only vehicles capable of fully autonomous driving (similar to the tech seen in Tesla cars) would fall under the proposed changes.
However ITV reports "there are no vehicles approved for self-driving on Britain’s roads" currently, adding that a change to the Highway Code in the UK could pave the way for them.
The changes are expected to be implemented in the UK by 2025.
