They were trying to throw a party with up to 150 guests allowed.
Two schoolboys in Sydney, Australia, have landed themselves in hot water after their plans to throw a fake wedding - in order to have a party - were uncovered by their parents.
The schoolboys attend Sydney Grammar School, as reported by 7news, and had planned to use the wedding as a ruse to throw an after party for their Year 12 (Sixth Year) formal.
Coronavirus restrictions in the state of New South Wales currently limit the crowd at school formal events to just 30.
However current rules in NSW allow for up to 150 guests at a wedding.
The plan may well have worked if it hadn't been for an image of the of the boys appearing to exchange vows being shared on popular Australian social media account 'Brown Cardigan'.
Once the boys’ parents found out about the plan, they rushed home to shut it down.
In a statement to The Daily Telegraph, they said it was “clearly a silly teenage idea”.
“No legally binding ceremony took place and we shut down the planned private celebratory event as soon as we found out about it, and thankfully, nobody was put at risk,” the statement said.
The boys have apologised for the prank and, since no party actually went ahead, no fines were issued.
