There's names that stand out, then there's this...

A child's name is an important part of their life, so picking one that suits them is a big responsibility for parents.

And as Ireland's top baby names list revealed yesterday, parents here are pretty sensible, with their choices.

Jack, James, Noah, Conor and Daniel were the most popular for boys; while  Emily, Grace, Emma, Sophie and Amelia were the top five for girls.

Classic names, easy to spell, not too easy to make fun of.

Well, spare a though for this baby girl in Gold Coast, Australia who has been named 'KVIIIlyn'.

Yes... 'KVIIIlyn.'

Which is actually meant to be 'Kaitlyn,' but instead of the 'ait' part the creative parents have used the roman numerals which spell 8.

Confused? Just spare a though for this girl's future teachers doing roll call...

Speaking to That’s Lifethe baby's mother Jessica Mavis said:

“I’ve always loved the name Kaitlyn but hated how popular it was.”

“So when I found out I was having a girl, my husband suggested we replace the ‘ait’ with the Roman number symbol for eight!”

“This will forever be the worst name.”

After spotting the article in the magazine, someone uploaded it to Facebook and, naturally, it went viral.

The post attracted more than 6700 comments, and was shared by hundreds of totally bewildered readers.

“Too weird. Bet the kid is going to hate her parents later,” one woman wrote.

Another said the baby girl had just been handed a “life sentence” by her parents, and was doomed to spell her name five times a day for the rest of her life.

“This will forever be the worst name,” another wrote.

Another said “I hate this planet”.
