A rat mightn't be your first choice of rescuer, but beggars can't be choosers.
An unlikely saviour is being trained up on how to find humans trapped under debris in disaster zones.
Rats with specially designed backpacks are being drafted in as a possible search and rescue option.
It might seem like a rodent is that last thing you'd want to see coming towards you after being trapped in a collapsed building, but with their training, these rats might just save your life.
A Belgian non profit organisation called Apopo is running the project, which includes the rats finding a person in a simulated disaster.
They then flick a switch on their tiny backpacks which triggers a beeper - after that the rats are awarded with treats at their base.
