"Who's a randy boy? You are! Yes, you are!"

A giant tortoise hailed as a hero for his legendary sex-drive, is returning to his home on the Galápagos Islands after saving his species from extinction.

Diego was brought to the island of Santa Cruz along with 13 other male tortoises as part of a breeding programme.

Since beginning in the 1960's, the programme has been a huge success leading to the birth of more than 2,000 giant tortoises.

The main man (tortoise) to thank for that success, is the ridiculously randy Diego.

Although he's 100 years old, Diego fathered what experts are guessing to be around 800 babies.

Diego is set for his triumphant return home to his island of Española this March according to the Galápagos National Parks service.

He'll be linking back up with 1,800 local tortoises, 40% of which specialists believe he is the Daddy of.

While chatting to AFP news agency, Jorge Carrion, the park's director stated,

"There's a feeling of happiness to have the possibility of returning that tortoise to his natural state."

After his heroic service, one can only imagine that a whole island of Crocs are awaiting Diego when he finally passes and moves on to Tortoise heaven.
