Create don't hate!
A new study has found that people who are online haters are more likely to have psychopathic traits.
The team of researchers focused their study on ninety-four online users who wrote comments about Polish athletes during the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
They found that forty-six of the comments that were posted were deemed to be hateful. Some of the comments included "she discredits our country" and "representing our country while being so ugly should be banned".
The participants then took a psychological survey that included the 'Dark Triad' questionnaire. This aims to identify personality traits of narcissism, machiavellianism and psychopathy.
Indy100.com reported that the author wrote:
"Results showed that high scores in Psychopathy subscale were significant predictors of posting hating comments online; high scores on the Envy Scale were marginally significant."
The study showed that being hateful online means you don't have much empathy with others online.
The research found there was no link between online hate and narcissism or a machiavellian personality.
Analyzing the psychology behind online hate is still in the early stages. Although, it is apparent that posting rants about people on social media about people you don't know is not a good thing.
