They aren't fans.
Since being released earlier this week, Jon Bon Jovi's cover of The Pouges' iconic Christmas hit Fairytale of New York has copped it's fair share of criticism.
The Livin' on a prayer singer released the cover as part of a Christmas album titled A Jon Bon Jovi Christmas, which also includes Tom Petty’s “Christmas All Over Again” and Elvis Presley’s “If I Get Home On Christmas Day”.
In his rendition, he sings both the male and female parts himself, and changes the controversial lyrics in the second verse to call someone a squirrel and suggests they aren't great in bed.
The entire re-written second verse reads:
"You’re a bum, you’re a braggart/You’ve lost all your swagger,
And the word around town is you ain’t much in bed,
You’re a squirrel ‘cause you’re nuts, You’re a kick in the guts,
Happy Christmas my arse I'll be glad it's our last!"
And now, The Pouges themselves have weighed in on the criticism.
Responding to a tweet from musician Rob Smith which said the cover was ''the worst thing to ever happen music,'' the band responded saying: ''What Rob said.''
Ouch.
