Image via PixabayA university called Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah is raising eyebrows after launching a course in Hardcore Pornography.
The 2-credit course involves the class sitting down together and analyzing scenes from the sauciest productions.
The course, filed on the College website under "Literature, Media and Writing" is described:
"Hard core pornography is as American as apple pie and more popular than Sunday night football. Our approach to this billion-dollar industry is as both a cultural phenomenon that reflects and reinforces sexual inequalities (but holds the potential to challenge sexual and gender norms) and as an art form that requires serious contemplation."
"We will watch pornographic films together and discuss the sexualization of race, class, and gender and as an experimental, radical art form."
Radical is certainly one way to put it!
Naturally, the announcement of such a course has caught the attention of the public, but in a statement to a US radio station, the College has said courses such as this one give students an opportunity to analyse social issues and:
"Descriptions of these courses, while alarming to some readers, help students decide if they wish to engage in serious investigation of controversial subjects.”
