Holy Carpet!

This may be the most Irish mammy thing an Irish mammy has ever done.

A woman's gone viral on TikTok after telling the tale of her mammy's holy carpet.

Fiona O'Brien, who's living in Canada, returned home for Christmas as many expats do.

After a few drinks, her mother produced a small velvet box containing a tiny sliver of carpet.

Even without context, storing a strip of old carpet in a box fit for a diamond necklace is pretty hilarious, but the story behind this mystery heirloom makes it even funnier.

It turns out, the piece of carpet is a bit of a holy 'relic', having been walked on by none other than Pope John Paul II during his visit to Ireland in 1979.

To make things even more exciting(!!), Fiona says her mammy revealed that the carpet strip will be left to her in her will.
