Recent research shows one in five mugs in the office are contaminated with faecal bacteria. Beautiful!
Biologist Dr Charles Gerba has found that as many as 90 per cent of the mugs in office kitchens are covered in germs, and 20 per cent of those carry faecal matter, Metro reports.
Up to 25 per cent of office workers don't wash their hands after using the toilet, so could spread them by just touching your mug.
Hygiene expert Dr Lisa Ackerley told Metro:
"Whatever you do, don’t leave mugs or water bottles out overnight.
"Water is not sterile, and bacteria will build up overnight.
"Ideally, bring your own mug and bottle to work and don’t share them with your colleagues."
