At. It. Again.
It's safe to say, Ireland's terrific range of Oscar nominations was one of the week's top stories.
With Banshees of Inisherin picking leading the way with a whopping 9 nods - Normal people's Paul Mescal also picked up a nomination for best actor for his performance in 'Aftersun'.
It wasn't long before some British outlets wrongly claimed the Kildare man as their own.
Its news channel reported "Paul Mescal was one of two British actors who had been nominated".

The broadcaster has now said it should have described the Kildare actor as Irish.
In a statement, the BBC said:
“In text running across the screen we reported that Paul Mescal was one of two British actors who had been nominated for an Oscar for a leading role."
“The text should have said that Paul Mescal is Irish. We apologise for the mistake.”
Of course, it's not the first time the BBC have claimed Irish personalities - in fact, the Mirror have created a handy list.
