Parents are being priced out of Santa's grotto - that's according to today's Irish Daily Mail.

A survey of venues across the country has found that parents alone are being charged €6 - just to supervise their children visiting the man in red.

It follows an announcement of prices for Dunnes Store's Santa's Magical Cabin experience - which will return to outlets in Dublin, Cork Limerick and Portlaoise at a cost of €13 per child.

Consumers' Association of Ireland chairman Michael Kilcoyne has described the situation as 'extortionate'.

Christmas is already estimated to cost families over €1000 on average. A spending report from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) published last year suggested that 59 per cent of those polled intended to spend at least €500 while 30 per cent were planning to spend €1,000 or more.
