Calling all nap lovers

We've all been guilty of taking a nap for an hour longer that we should, but turns out there is a perfect time for a nap.

TikTok star and trained medic, Dr Karan Raj has revealed the right amount of time for the perfect nap.

In a recent video Dr Raj shared medical tips about napping and how to avoid feeling groggy.

Dr Raj says:

"I wanna tell you the secret to the perfect length of a nap and the best time to nap."

He then explains that this kind of nap has been named the 'Goldilocks nap,'.

Explaining:

"Nap for 90 minutes. Ninety minutes allows you to cycle through all the sleep stages - that's one cycle of sleep,"

"Any longer or shorter you risk sleep inertia, that feeling of grogginess."

During the night, our body goes through 90 minutes cycles which has 5 stages.

According to Tyla, the first four stages are non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep and the final stage is rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, where dreaming often occurs.

The 90 minute nap is to avoid waking up during a moment of deeper NREM sleep.

Hence, why you might wake up feeling groggy after your nap.
