Is it a good thing or a bad thing though?
So... did you know that menstrual leave is a thing in some countries? And that it's actually been a thing for quite a while?
As it turns out women in Japan have been able to take time off for painful periods since just after World War II.
The leave is called seirikyuuka - meaning "physiological leave".
And they aren't the only ones. Taiwan has also embraced a similar type of leave, with women able to take three days off a year - on top of the 30 days of half-pay sick leave workers are allowed to take.
While in Indonesia, women are allowed two days a month of menstrual leave, and in South Korea, workers and students are allowed to take time off as sick leave when they have their period.
Notice a recurring theme? Asia clearly leads the way for menstrual leave.
But is it for the right reasons?
Grazia reports that a lot of these laws were implemented in the first place because of the misplaced notion that women who work during their period risk having trouble conceiving children.
So basically it's not a compassion thing, it's more so she can keep pumping out those babies.
Would we like to see menstrual leave become a thing in Ireland... maybe not.
