Thousands of people are having it out on twitter.
Twitter users from all across the globe are currently arguing over the correct answer to a maths question.
And it turns out that nobody is technically wrong despite having completely different answers, because apparently the way you've been taught algebra could impact the outcome of the sum.
Twitter user @pjmdoll started all the drama when she shared a tweet instructing her followers to: "Solve this".

The maths problem reads: 8 ÷ 2 (2+2) = ?
So far, more than 7,800 people have liked her tweet with over 8,000 responding with answers.
The two 'correct' answers.
People on Twitter are split over two answers, one and 16.
These different answers have caused a heated debate to break out online - with even the likes of Queer Eye's Bobby Berk getting involved to have his say.
The TV star retweeted Em's post, saying: "It's 16 y'all."

Some agreed with him, but others claimed he was wrong.
"Bobbers.... it’s one," said a fan.

Another proclaimed: "Anything other than one is absolutely wrong."
Thankfully a helpful tweet shed light on the matter:
You need to see the how bracket is created.
There can be two cases:Case 1:
8 ÷ 2 x (2+2) = 8 ÷ 2 x 4 = 4 x 4 = 16Case 2 (Given case):
8 ÷ 2(2+2) = 8 ÷ 2(4) = 8 ÷ 8 = 1RULE is STEP-BY-STEP following of BODMAS (Bracket, Of, Divide, Multiply, Add, Subtract)
Hope it helps !

PEMDAS v BODMAS.
since part of the world teaches PEMDAS and part teaches BODMAS algebra can be quite confusing at times pic.twitter.com/UaXSPMwvYJ

It seems those who followed a BODMAS method of working got 16 and those using PEMDAS got one.
Bodmas sees people working out by breaking things down to follow brackets, orders, division/multiplication, addition/subtraction.
While PEMDAS does things in order of parenthesis, exponents, multiplication/division, addition/subtraction.
Just for the record, according to google, the answer is 16, which means BODMAS could be the winner.
But what did you get?
