A painting by Bartolome Esteban Murillo depicting the Virgin Mary got a $1,300(€1148.87) restoration.
The painting known as "The Immaculate Conception of Los Venerables" has had a cartoon-like makeover.
According to UPI.com, the owner of the painting from Valencia,Spain said that the painter made two attempts at restoring the painting but failed.
Former president of Spain's Professional Association of Restorers and Conservators Fernando Carrera said that the disaster calls for regulations in the industry of restoration.
Carrera spoke to the Guardian saying:"I don't think this guy -- or these people -- should be referred to as restorers,"
"Let's be honest: they're bodgers who botch things up. They destroy things."
"Can you imagine just anyone being allowed to operate on other people? Or someone being allowed to sell medicine without a pharmacist's license? Or someone who's not an architect being allowed to put up a building?"
The currents laws in Spain allow anyone to sell their services as art restoration experts.
