How bold can you get.

Police in the USA have warned businesses to be “careful who you hire”, after a man allegedly robbed a petrol station where he’d just been hired to work the overnight shift.

The alarm was raised after the owner of the Go On Gas on Arch Street in Hamden, Connecticut, logged on to the store's camera footage in late January during the man’s first shift, only to realise he'd left the store.

The owner went to the store and quickly realised it had been robbed of numerous valuable items, including “lottery tickets, 89 boxes of cigarettes” and cash, according to Hamden Police Department.

The loss has been calculated at €15,581 ($US17,183).

The man allegedly took his own employment folder from the business, meaning the owner doesn’t know the employee’s name.

“Careful who you hire,” Hamden Police said in a public appeal for information.

Local police have asked for anyone with information about the man to come forward.
