As was reported in the news on The AO Show this morning, people who watch programmes on laptops and tablets will have to pay a charge similar to the TV licence fee under new Government plans.
The announcement was made by the Communications Minister who says the public has a responsibility to support public service broadcasting.
How will the new licence fee be collected?
The new Broadcasting Bill will see the Government tender for companies to collect the licence fee in a bid to crack down on non-payment.
The successful bidder will replace the TV licence fee with a broadcasting charge.
Minister Richard Bruton says people should fund home grown content, even if they don't consume it.
