If TikTok told you to jump of a cliff, would you do that too?
TikTok has resulted in loads of trends since it became people's go-to app for entertainment.
But one of the latest is also one of the most bizarre.
It all started when user @shapla_11 posted a video to the site saying that apparently drinking 'lettuce water' was supposed to make you sleepy.
The video takes you through the steps of making what it essentially lettuce tea (yuck).
@shapla_11if you can’t sleep, try this ##lettucewater ##insomnia ##lifehacks ##fyp♬ Monkeys Spinning Monkeys - Kevin MacLeod
As you can see, at the end she appears to be very tired and attributes it to the lettuce water.
The worst thing is, that's led to loads of TikTokers trying it out!
So after millions of views and thousands of attempts, is there scientific proof that lettuce water makes you sleepy? - NO.
It's believed the theory is based on a scientific study from 2017 - on mice.
The study was carried out on mice, who had also been given a sedative.
Also the concoction used then was made from ethanol and not water - this goes without saying but DO NOT DRINK ETHANOL.
So turns out, ya'll were drinking nasty lettuce water for absolutely no reason!
