Turns out men aren't so squeaky clean
A survey has revealed that Irish women care more about hygiene when it comes to washing their hands than men.
The survey, conducted by Initial Hygiene, also reveals 50% of people don't use soap.
While the recommended time to give your hands a proper wash is twenty seconds, 90% of those surveyed admitted they fell short on this time.
Out of the percentage of people who said they wash their hands before every meal, only 13% of lads said they abide by this against 87% of the girls.
A further 67% of men said they never wash their hands before eating.
Some of the most popular reasons people used as excuse included: complaining of hygiene issues in the restroom, others said they were in a hurry and insufficient washroom facilities was another factor.
Richard Faulkner of Initial Hygiene said:
“Washing your hands properly is critical in preventing the spread of bugs and infection, from the common cold and flu to more serious infections such as the winter vomiting bug, E. coli and salmonella.
"As we enter flu season, it is more critical than ever that people ensure they are washing their hands regularly and in the proper way, for the sake of our own health and others.
"We would urge all people, and particularly parents with young children, to ensure they are washing their hands properly.”
