A leading scientist says the positive thinking technique of manifesting is "intellectually vapid".
Manifestation is self-help process which states that believing in a positive outcome will make that outcome easier to achieve.
The practice was popularised by Rhonda Byrne's self help book The Secret and has seen a resurgence online.
Dr David Robert Grimes says it inspires unrealistic expectations in people that they can influence events outside of their control.
He says it puts the onus on people to feel a certain way and is an artificial contsruct.
