That's why we're fairly taken aback at what we came across on TikTok.
And the online world seems to agree as the video has well and truly gone viral.
In it, one man reveals that he paid off his ex's mortgage simply because "she deserves it".
TikTok user @shaun.nyland filmed the moment he told his ex-girlfriend that he'd rang the bank that morning to pay off the entirety of the mortgage for her house.
It was a present for her 31st birthday - we can assume from the balloons in the video.
