Thinking outside the (flat-packed) box.
A YouTuber faked an entire holiday to Bali by simply taking a few snaps in IKEA.
Natalia Taylor from the United States managed to convince her 314,000 Instagram followers that she had jetted off to Bali when in fact, she had just popped into her local IKEA for a photoshoot.
She posted her first Instagram post on February 6th. It was a series of photos of her on a mint green phone with the caption "The queen has arrived ?? #bali" and her location set to Bali, Indonesia.
She followed that up with two more Instagram posts which included pictures of her posing in a kitchen with champagne, sitting on a deck chair and laying in a bath.
Her followers seemed none the wiser with the posts racking up comments like "She really out her living her best life" and "Wait what! U are in indonesia!?"
However, on February 10th, Natalia revealed all in a YouTube video which showed that the pictures from the whole trip were actually taken in one day in IKEA.
She explained:
"It's been said life on the internet isn't always what it seems, especially in today's day and age when it's so easy to pretend to be anyone you want to be.
"So many influencers nowadays have actually been caught in the act of pretending to be at a particular destination when they really weren't and it's either Photoshop or it's not even them.
"The point of this video is to see if you really can fake it 'til you make it."
Even though she posted zero snaps of the gorgeous scenery or famous landmarks in Bali, she did throw a few up on her Instagram story. That included clips of herself 'getting ready' before the flight and looking out of a plane window - a photo which she got from the internet.
Natalia admitted in the video that she found it tough lying to her followers, but wanted to lift the veil on social media. At the end, she encouraged everyone not to believe everything they see on the internet.
