A man in the US has developed an Irish accent after a cancer diagnosis - despite never being here.

The study published in the British Medical Journal says there have been several similar cases recorded over the years with the condition called Foreign Accent Syndrome.

20 months into the man's treatment he started speaking uncontrollably with what's described as an "Irish brogue" until his death.

The first recorded case of Foreign Accent Syndrome was in the 1940s.

It's not the first time FAS has led to someone picking up an Irish lilt.

You might remember Australian Angie Yen, who ended up sounding like this after a routine procedure to have her tonsils removed:

Now just how accurate the 'Irish' accent is has come in for some discussion, but you can definitely notice some similarities.
