Is this too far?

A council in Australia has sparked a debate online after they introduced women-only parking.

Natasha Gallier, from Perth, shared a short video of a multi-story where certain areas have been reserved for women to her TikTok.

The video shows a section of the car park designated for women painted bright pink.

There is also a message on the wall that reads: "Kindly reserve this bay for female drivers."

Users shared their concern in the comments with one saying:

"I would not use this. It just tells creeps where to creep."

While another added: "As a feminist, I like the safe space idea, but at the same time, it's a huge flashing green light for the creeps."

The 'female friendly' section was created in 2016  by local authorities, with bays situated closer to the entrance and exit.

These spaces have additional CCTV, upgraded lighting and assistance intercoms.

National Council of Women Australia, Barbara Baikie, told news.com.au:

"I understand why that may be necessary to keep women safe, but I would think this is just a Band-Aid solution.

"A much better solution would be to educate young men to respect women and not attack them."

According to Ladbible, while men are not banned from parking there, they are encouraged not to.
