The Telsa CEO have said college is beneficial for allowing students to meet people their own age, however claims it is pointless when it comes to education.
The Entrepreneur was speaking at the Satellite 2020 conference earlier this week, where he was discussing sending humans into space and developing technology.
During a Q&A, Musk was asked how could industries make higher education more affordable for students
He replied by saying ' you don't need college to learn stuff', claiming knowledge is relatively free and paying for it is unnecessary.
Musk described university and college as a load of 'annoying homework assignments', saying:
"I think colleges are basically for fun and to prove you can do your chores, but they’re not for learning."
Interestingly, Musk didn't take that statement into consideration when he was studying for his degree in physics and economics at Queens University in Kingston,Ontario before completing his degree in the University of Pennsylvania.
The SpaceX CEO did however drop out of Stanford University after only two days. Musk instead established his first company Zip2, where according to Business Insider he earned over $2million
Musk highlighted that Telsa didn't require it's staff to have a college degree.

Musk explained saying:
"I don’t consider going to college evidence of exceptional ability. In fact, ideally, you dropped out and did something.
"If you look at like, you know, Gates is a pretty smart guy; he dropped out. Jobs, pretty smart — he dropped out. Larry Ellison, smart guy — he dropped out.
"Like, obviously not needed. Did Shakespeare even go to college? Probably not."
