Who is now a parent?

If you have a four legged friend at home then you could call yourself a parent.

A new study claims that cat owners are often seen as parents by their cat.

The study which was conducted by Oregon State University found that our furry friends see their owners as their care-givers or parents.

Researchers looked at the behaviour of kittens who spent two minutes with their caretaker.

They would then leave the kitten on their own and then bring back the caretaker.

The findings, which were published in the Current Biology journal found that kittens and babies feel the same attachment to their caregivers.

It read:

"The current data support the hypothesis that cats show a similar capacity for the formation of secure and insecure attachments towards human caregivers previously demonstrated in children."

"Cat attachment style appears to be relatively stable and is present in adulthood."

They also found that cats are more attached to their owner that dogs.
