People feel such a strong connection with their cars and then go and name it Dave
Have you ever named your car? Maybe it's a tradition, or maybe you felt it matches the car's personality.
Well, if you have you're definitely not alone.
A study of 2,000 drivers found four in 10 have named a car, with Bessie, Betty, Bertha, and Bertie among the top choices.
60% of them have admitted they grow emotionally attached to their machine, while 37% would go as far as to describe their car as a friend or part of the family.
The stats emerged in a study by Your Red Car, a new online auto marketplace powered by Santander.
At least 31% of owners refer to their car as she/her, something which is bound to be a bit more common in Ireland.
The study also revealed we like to talk to our cars (30%), show it affection by stroking the dash (22%) or even giving it a hug (10%).
And when the time comes to get a new one, a quarter of 18–24-year-olds found selling their favourite car more upsetting than breaking up with an ex-love (27 per cent), being cheated on (24 per cent) or losing a pet (24 per cent).
