She sold her ex's great-grandmother's ring.

A heart-broken woman has confessed that she lost $20,000 (€17,000) after finding out her fiancé had cheated. So, she sold her engagement ring to pay off the debt of the wedding.

A mutual friend caught him cheating with his ex-girlfriend just two weeks before the big day.

To get herself out of debt, she sold the engagement ring he gave her - which was his great-grandmothers ring.

The ring was worth $25,000 (€22,000).

Posting to popular Reddit page r/AmITheAs*hole?, the woman asked people their opinion on what she had done.

Is she in the wrong?

She found herself out of pocket after having to cancel her dream wedding last minute. She told her ex that she would sell the ring if he didn't agree to help pay off the loan they took out to pay for the wedding.

Her ex-fiancé was livid and demanded the ring back.

The woman revealed that some of her family members didn't agree with what she did and thought she overreacted and "shouldn't have gone to extreme measures as it will be hard for him to get the ring back, if he even can at all."

Some users thought she might have a court case on her hands. However, the majority were in her favor.

One commented:

"I was really prepared to give a different vote, but, if you don’t want to lose a valuable family heirloom, don’t give it to someone and then cheat on them. Also, believe that person the many times they warn you that they’ll sell it to pay for a wedding that had to be cancelled due to your own antics…"

Another wrote:

"I believe that engagement rings and heirlooms should be returned after a breakup. That being said, he cheated a month before the wedding, blocked your messages, refused to help pay and mocked you."

Do you think she's being petty?
