It seems that Brexit is affecting the british travelling abroad worse that expected.
As a result of Brexit regulation, customs officers in the Netherlands are seizing ham sandwiches and other seemingly minor food items from drivers attempting to enter the country from Britain.
A Dutch news broadcaster Avrotros aired the footage of customs officers confiscating the food.
The drivers coming from Britain via the Hook of Holland ferry terminal were showing turning over multiple sandwiches to customs officers.
Under new Brexit regulations, personal imports of items including meat, dairy, produce and other food items have been banned.
According to UPI, the British Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs have issued guidance telling drivers to 'use, consume, or dispose of" any personal food items in their vehicles
The department said :
"From 1 January 2021 you will not be able to bring POAO (products of an animal origin) such as those containing meat or dairy (eg a ham and cheese sandwich) into the EU,"
Customs in the Netherlands posted an image to Facebook showing items that have been confiscated since the regulations have been introduced.
