We all know a professional backseat driver
A new study has shown that a backseat driver can reduce accidents amongst drivers over the age of 24.
Professor Samuel Charlton from the University of Waikato is one of the co-authors of the reasearch for the Automobile Association.
Speaking to Radio New Zealand, Charlton said:
"There's this perception out there that passengers can be distracting, nagging and so-forth, but after the age of 24 having a passenger in your car actually decreases the chance you're going to have a crash.
"Having a passenger look out the left hand window and telling you whether it's clear to go or not is very helpful."
According to Ladbible, Charlton claims the tone of the backseat drivers voice is very important and that they should speak to the driver before the journey about anything they might need.
Anything else can stay in the backseat drivers mind says Charlton.
A survey carried out in 2018 found that 70% of people found the habit annoying and that the biggest culprit was their partner.
