Have your avocado toast, and a condo, too.
Is this the dream millennial apartment?
A new development in Vancouver, Canada, is offering one free year of avocado toast for each sale of its 116 condos.
The Kira, part of Woodbridge Homes, in British Columbia’s West Coquitlam, bills itself as being “close to daily conveniences like transit, shopping, parks and restaurants,” as well as boasting “spacious modern interiors … designed to maximise the natural sunlight flowing into each home.”
However, the millennial paradise, which opens this year, is adding another perk to set it over the edge with its peak demographic — free avocado toast, or any other comparable breakfast option, for a year from a local restaurant, Vice’s food site, Munchies reported.
“Saving for a down payment does require some saving and sacrificing,” Woodbridge Homes president Jamie Howard told The Star. “At the Kira project, we say you can have your avocado toast and eat it too.”
To add another icing on the avocado, prospective homebuyers are only required to pay 10 per cent of the down payment, instead of the usual 20 per cent.
The inclusion of the popular snack food item was likely in reference to Australian millionaire Tim Gurner, who said in a 60 Minutes interview in 2017 that the reason millennials could not afford homes was their habit of buying avocado toast.
