Status yellow weather warnings for snow, ice and rain are in place for 21 counties.

A separate warning has come into effect for 7 counties in the East for rain and will remain in place for the entire day.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather says temperatures should climb slightly later this evening.

‘The cold air will remain in place but the rain will continue to move north and there will be more rain moving into the south later today but it will be rain with temperatures back up a little bit so we will see more heavy rain in the south east especially, with some localised flooding, but generally most areas will turn back to rain and sleet by this evening.’
