Cancer is only a chapter in their lives, not the whole story...
On average, four children up to the age of 16 are diagnosed with cancer every week in Ireland, and with each and every diagnosis the strain and emotional toll imposed on the family is enormous.
Since 2014 the Childhood Cancer Foundation of Ireland has proved itself to be a shining light for children and families in what must feel like the darkest of times.
Started by parents and family members of children affected by cancer, the CCF stand side-by-side with families, campaigning for and funding improved services and support networks for patients.
It's the CCF's ambition ease the burden carried by the children and their families, while also raising awareness among the Irish public of the issues surrounding childhood cancer.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
While every month is an important one for the CCF, September is especially so, as it marks Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Ireland, a cause not lost on Opel Ireland.
Opel have thrown their full support behind the September awareness campaign and in doing so have come up with a very special way to raise funds.
In association with the CCF, they've donated a Limited Edition Opel ADAM (pictured above), which will be won by one lucky member of the public!
The car has been designed by Opel ADAM ambassador and artist Pan Cooke (@therealpan) along with brave children currently battling and recovering from cancer.
The design sports a unique roof design along with a heap of other cool features.
You can check the story of how the special car was created in the video below:
Emily Barry, Senior Brand and PR Manager for Opel Ireland said the company was thrilled to be involved with such a worthy cause, “We are delighted to be in the position to support our partners in the Childhood Cancer Foundation by donating the Opel ADAM, but also through our collaboration with the incredibly talented Pan Cooke, who’s unique roof design is a real celebration of childhood innocence,'' she said.
Ms Barry continued to say, 'we’re hopeful that this latest campaign will help raise vital funds for the charity, but perhaps more importantly shine a light on a very real issue that has such a profound and devastating effect on so many families in this country.”
How can you get involved?
It couldn't be easier to be a part of this incredible cause, and potentially snare yourself the limited edition Opel ADAM.
Simply text ''GOLDOPEL” to 50300 and you'll automatically donate €4 to the Childhood Cancer Foundation, and also be in the running for the car.
It's that easy.
Cancer may be robbing their childhoods, but through the efforts of organisations such as the CCF and Opel Ireland, we can ensure it won't steal their futures too.
So this September, throw your support behind this great cause and help these children and their families make cancer a distant memory.
