The family of Alfie Evans are taking the battle to fly the terminally ill toddler to Italy for treatment to the UK's Court of Appeal today, after his life support was withdrawn.
Tom Evans and Kate James requested to fly their 23-month-old child to the paediatric Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome, after Italian citizenship was granted to the infant so he could be transferred.
However, The Mirror reports that High Court judge Mr Justice Hayden yesterday ruled out plans to take the little boy to Rome, instead suggesting British doctors to consider letting him go home.
A decision which Alfie's parents, Tom Evans and Kate James, are appealing. With the case to be heard this afternoon.
Alfie has stunned doctors' after he continued to breathe after his life support was removed on Monday night, his dad said.
More than 40 hours on, he is "still fighting".
Alfie's father Tom, 21, has hit out at his son's treatment by doctors, who he claims initially refused to feed him after the tubes were taken off his body.
The father told ITV's This Morning: "It's disgusting how he's being treated.
"Not even an animal would be treated like this."
"It’s time to give him some grace and dignity and let him go home or to Italy.”
Tom said Alfie was receiving water, milk and oxygen.

Terminally ill British toddler Alfie Evans, has been denied a lifeline by Italy.
The toddler was offered citizenship by the Italians last night, in a last ditch bid to have him transferred to Rome.
However a judge last night upheld a UK Supreme Court ruling to turn off his life support.
The 23-month-old child - who has been in a coma for over a year- requires a ventilator to keep him breathing due to a rare degenerative neurological condition.
Alfie has been suffering from chronic seizures since December 2016, however his parents claim he is not in pain.
Tom Evans and Kate James, were desperate to move their son to the paediatric Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome, which is administered by the Vatican.
They believe a cure to Alfie's condition can still be found, but more time and funds are required in order to find a proper diagnosis.

However a Judge has ruled the move would be 'futile and wrong.'
The judge said the best Alfie’s parents could hope for was to ‘explore’ the options of removing him from intensive care either to a ward, a hospice or his home.
According to Metro.UK Doctors switched off Alifies life support last night, but he defied predictions and kept breathing unsupported throughout the night.
They say it is hard to estimate how long Alfie will live without life support, but that there is no chance his condition will improve.
Alfie's case has attracted a lot of social media attention around the world, with social media users banding behind the hashtag #SaveAlfie.
In addition, Facebook Group ALFIES ARMY, has attracted nearly 350,000 members.
Pope Francis too has been vocal in the case to keep Alfie alive, having twice called for his life to be prolonged.
It's reported Alfie's parents are returning to the courts today in a final attempt to overturn the decision preventing their son from being taken to Vatican City in Rome for treatment.
