"This year is dead for a live show"

This is just what we wanted to hear during the time of year we usually hear of festival announcements.

Owner of Slane Castle, Lord Henry Mountcharles has said there is a possibility of hosting two concerts at the venue next year.

The iconic venue owner said:

"This year is dead for a live show,"

"I was holding out hope that something could happen, but it looks nigh on impossible.

"We are looking at a show - and very possibly two - next year. I see it returning in the summer of 2022, and I want to come back with a big show."

"We will come back next year with a big one, and I am certainly looking at the possibility of two separate acts," he continued.

"I'm always very selective and careful about Slane - not everyone gets to play here. There are world-class acts out there and a wealth of Irish talent too, which I am keeping my eye on."

According to RTE, Metallica were the last act to headline Slane Castle in June 2019.

The venue has hosted some of the world's biggest acts including: Eminem, Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi and U2.

Lord Mountcharles also said there might be a behind-closed-doors, live-streamed concert later this year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first concert at Slane.
