A pharmacy has been damaged in County Mayo after a truck crashed into the front of the building.

A lorry hit a traffic island before crashing into O'Donnell's Total Health Pharmacy in the Charlestown area in the early hours of yesterday.

It happened on Market Square - the driver was brought to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Local Councillor Gerry Murray says locals heard the noise:

"Potentially this lorry was approaching the town square and it got into some difficulty and it slided off the road and into O'Donnell's Pharmacy on the square and has done significant structural damage to the building."

"Well obviously it was a huge shock, particularly for residents who are living in the square, they heard the impact. Obviously, they were woken from their sleep and came out onto the town square to see this lorry crashed into the chemist shop. The driver was rescued from the vehicle."
