Students will now be able to take Computer Science
Richard Bruton, the Minister for Education and Skills has announced that Computer Science will become a new Leaving Cert subject as of this September.
40-Schools around the Country will offer the subject on their curriculum, with the first exams to sit in 2020.
The program offers students the chance to learn skills such as:
- Programming languages
- Reading, writing, testing and modifying computer programs.
- Computational thinking
- Creative design and problem analysis in computational terms
- And design computational artifacts like digital animations, simulations, games, apps and robotic systems.
Upon announcing the new subject Minister Bruton said: "There is a digital revolution taking place which is having a trans-formative effect on our economy, workplace, and lifestyle. In order to be the best in Europe, our education system must respond to these changes. The introduction of this new subject will teach our young people flexible, solution orientated thinking."
