In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, Floridian couple Ruth and Lee Heunniger were cleaning up debris in their local area when they came across a plastic bottle. Initially it just looked like part of the wreckage but upon closer inspection, they discovered a laminated piece of paper inside.

To their amazement, the letter had come all the way from a primary school in Scotland. The note reads: "We are learning all about pirates. We would like to see how far this message goes. Please write and tell us where you found the bottle."

Because there was no sea life on the bottle and no date on the letter, the Heunnigers assumed it was just a few years old. However, according to Inside Edition on YouTube, they made contact with a former teacher at the school and she informed them it was written in the 1980s and sent over 30 years ago!
