'Aussie Flu' is spreading across the Country
The Health Service Executive is urging High-Risk groups - including elderly people and those with compromised immune systems - to take particular care this Winter Flu Season, due to an outbreak of the 'Aussie Flu.'
A number of deaths directly related to the Flu have already been reported, with the A (H3N2) strain causing the most concern.
The HSE is advising people to get vaccinated. Those included in the ‘at risk’ groups are able to access the vaccine for free.
People with elderly relatives and friends are also being urged to check on them during the season.
Some basic information to help you avoid catching/spreading the flu include:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Stay home when you are sick
- Cover your mouth and nose
- Clean your hands
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
While symptoms include:
- A sudden fever
- Aches
- Exhaustion
- Dry chesty cough
- Headaches
- Sore throat
- Diarrhea
- Nausea, vomiting
- And trouble sleeping
