It's understood vaccinating people in their 40s alongside those in their 50s are among the changes being considered.
Meanwhile, Pfizer has submitted a request to the EMA to approve its use in 12-15 year old's.
The head of the vaccine taskforce says the potential for kids as young as 12 to receive a Covid-19 vaccine is an "interesting development".
Professor Brian McCraith said that if an extension was approved, it would "provide an interesting opportunity for policy makers in Ireland to extend the programme right down to those aged 12."
He added that it would be ultimately be up to Government and the Minister of Health.
