Titles such as "Sir" and "Dame" could be awarded in Ireland if one Independent Senator gets his way.
Gerard Craughwell says he thinks an Honours system, like the "Lords" and "Sirs" one used in the UK, should be introduced here.
He believes it would be a good way to recognise unsung heroes across the country doing important work and has cited the example of Catherine Corless, who investigated the Tuam Mother and Baby Home in Co. Galway.
Her work focused on deaths of children at the facility run by the Bon Secours order.
Senator Craughwell has also denied that such a system would be class-based or be dominated by big names.
